Move More Citrus with Tasting Demos

Citrus season is in full swing with an enticing array of organic varieties to satisfy every eaters’ needs. Now is the perfect time to show off the full suite of sizes, colors and flavors available by building stunning displays and inviting shoppers to sample a bite of each.

Setting up a successful demo in your store is a surefire way to boost category sales and can be easy to execute - keep these tips in mind to make your demo a hit.

Time of day

Be sure to maximize exposure by setting up a sample station during a time of day when many shoppers are visiting the produce department.

Location, location, location

Find a spot in your department that doesn’t obstruct the flow and has good foot traffic, allowing shoppers to move easily from demo table to citrus display.

Spread the word

Whether on social media, in your newsletter or with in-store signage, letting shoppers know about a chance to taste some tasty citrus can help draw people into the store to experience your demo.

Active vs. Passive

While a staffed demo table is ideal for showcasing expertise and connecting with shoppers, departments short on labor should consider passive sampling. Even one variety of cut fruit in a sample dome can help net sales.

Gear up for success

Prep your supplies; a table, cutting boards, knives, towels, platters or bowls, sign holders, toothpicks, napkins and a waste bin are all essential.

Safety first

Thoroughly wash fruit before cutting, and be sure to use sanitized cutting boards, knives and platters. Toss on a pair of gloves and mind those fingers while cutting. Continue safe food handling practices during the demo.

Make it eye-catching

We eat with our eyes first! Lay out a lush tablescape with platters of fresh-cut citrus and whole examples to entice and delight. Bite-sized samples are best.
