Meet OGC Mission Fund Recipient: Oregon Food Bank

Oregon Food Bank is on a mission to eliminate hunger and its root causes. They’ve been helping folks in our community for over 40 years through a wide range of programs, including distributing food across Oregon and Southwest Washington, organizing volunteers, supporting growers, and more. Through their work, they give away food today, and through their advocacy efforts, they support legislation to ensure food security for the future.

Unfortunately, the need for Oregon Food Bank’s services is great and continues to grow. Due to inflation and the pandemic, in the last few years, food insecurity rates have doubled. As food and housing costs rise, community members are put in terrible situations where they must choose between paying for housing, healthcare or food.

To support Oregon Food Bank’s dedication to nourishing the communities we serve, OGC awarded them a 2022 Mission Fund grant and donated over 76,000 pounds of fresh organic fruits and vegetables last year alone. OGC coworkers are also encouraged to use their paid volunteer hours to lend a hand at the food bank.

“This grant is an investment in our operations and community programs that sustain our work for food security and beyond,” said Liset Puentes, Oregon Food Bank’s Corporate and Community Relations Developer. “Our advocacy work, volunteer programs and more – it’s all part of the ecosystem that keeps things running. Grants like this ensure we can get food to the folks who need it most.”

Oregon Food Bank is just one of the many nonprofit organizations supported by OGC’s Mission Fund in 2022. You can find a list of all our grant recipients at https://www.organicgrown.com/blog/2022missionfundgiving.
