Stock Up for Cinco & Mother’s Day, Too!

May brings more celebratory meals, this time calling for food with a latin flare and something lovely for mothers and maternal figures. With Cinco de Mayo and Mother’s Day falling just days apart, produce departments will be buzzing with shoppers including plenty of additions to their weekly grocery haul.

Be prepared with OGC’s Cinco de Mayo and Mother’s Day checklists!

Cinco de Mayo

Topping the list is of course organic avocados. There’s a wide selection available from the new and enticing GEM(™) to Hass of various sizes and packs to meet the needs of every shopper. Be sure to have some ready avocados on hand to drive sales! Be ready with plenty of cilantro, jalapenos, limes, tomatoes and onions for guacamole, salsa and sauces. An assortment of bell peppers and chiles will surely make their way into shopping carts. Easily overlooked but a great opportunity to add excitement to fruit sets, stock plenty of tropical items! Ataulfo and Tommy Atkins mangos, Formosa papaya and Gold pineapple go from colorful salsas to blended drinks with ease. Shoppers looking to prepare more traditional fare will want nopales and jicama, too!

Mother’s Day

Brunch is the name of the game for this Sunday holiday and spring is offering up plenty of delectable treats to honor maternal figures. Fresh squeezed organic Midknight Valencia oranges take mimosas from “mmm” to “magnificent!” A bounty of berries elevate pancakes and waffles, and strawberries are particularly in demand for this season’s menus. Right on time, Northwest-grown ruby-hued rhubarb is the answer to “what should we bake?” Don’t forget the veg! Asparagus compliments meals any time of the day, but feels especially fancy for brunch!
