Organically Grown Company Donates $100,000 to Three Organizations Focused on the Future of Organic Agriculture.

With a mission to promote and inspire the growth of the organic agriculture movement, Organically Grown Company (OGC) made strategic investments in organic trade advocacy and research in 2022, supporting the work of the Oregon Organic Coalition, the Coalition of Organic and Regenerative Agriculture and The Organic Center.

This year, $100,000 in funding was distributed to the three trade allies with an aim to positively impact the organic food and farming community in the Northwest and nationally through policy advocacy and critical research on organic strategies to mitigate and adapt to climate change.

“These grants are an investment in the future of organic and a resilient food system,” said Brenna Davis, CEO of Organically Grown Company.  “When we think about our investment in organic legislative education and action and research, we picture the hundreds of farmers we work with, the families who want organic food on their table, and a planet impacted by climate change. These partners are fighting for causes we believe in.”

OGC’s investment in the Oregon Organic Coalition will help expand its work and impact through operational support.  With four Bills introduced by OOC for the upcoming 2023 Oregon legislative session, resources from OGC will help advance organic agriculture initiatives in the state.

Similarly, a grant to the Washington-based Coalition of Organic and Regenerative Agriculture will provide resources for effective advocacy for organic agriculture policies and research and support for farmers transitioning to organic.

Both Northwest-based advocacy organizations will work with national organizations such as the Organic Trade Association, the Organic Farmers Association, the National Organic Coalition, and the National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition to ensure the voice of the region’s organic community is heard in Washington, D.C.  This will be particularly important as the 2023 Farm Bill is being formulated.

OGC’s grant to The Organic Center−Foundation for Food and Agriculture supports a two-part study focused on understanding specific strategies organic growers can undertake to mitigate climate change and adapt to current and future climate changes.

Work will assess existing tools commonly used to predict climate and environmental impacts of agricultural production and identify gaps related to the representation of organic management.

Researchers will also investigate the integration of agroforestry, conduct a farm-scale soil carbon accounting of a diversified cropping system, and assess cost-effective ways to achieve climate change mitigation and adaptation in organic systems using tillage and in-farm organic waste.
