Curiously Colorful, Specialty Watermelons Provide Flavor & Visual Impact!
Inspired by market trends that embrace colorful twists on familiar classics, Annie Baisden and Jeff Thomson of Thomson International have selected new and enticing watermelon varieties that introduce unexpected color!
The brother and sister duo come from a long line of watermelon growers who have been farming in Bakersfield, CA for decades. The addition of Midnight Black, Sunshine, Neon Moon and orange seedless watermelon are an exciting innovation for a company steeped in tradition.
OGC Buyer, Rachel Pienovi, shares that she had long been seeking an organic grower for a black-rind watermelon. Conventional options have been performing well and she hoped to replicate that success for the organic market. Rachel was beyond pleased when Thomson not only fulfilled her request, but shared they’d been working on even more.
“I’m excited about introducing our account partners to these watermelon varieties. We know from past success with sharing new, colorful options how well they can enhance existing programs,” Rachel shares. “We are incredibly welcoming of feedback and hope that shoppers get as much joy in cutting open these gorgeous watermelons as we do!”
More than just colorful alternatives to the traditional red watermelon, these spectacular varieties offer a new texture and flavor experience for eaters they’ll be sure to enjoy exploring.
