Meet OGC Mission Fund Recipient: People’s Land Fund

Imagine a world where community is centered, resources are shared and we thrive together. The founders of the People’s Land Fund not only imagined it…they’re creating it.

The People’s Land Fund is a collaborative of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color food and agriculture leaders who have come together to create a more equitable food system. Their work centers indigenous and ecological land stewardship, equitable regional food systems, and collective wealth. Each of PLF’s leaders have their own group, but together they support each other, so they can share learnings and be more successful.

Right now, PLF is focused on three projects: Cochiti Pueblo Ancestral Lands, Gohyang Seed Campus, and Rancho Corralitos. For each project, PLF is raising funds, transferring land ownership to BIPOC land stewards and restoring cultural practices. For the Rancho Corralitos project, the People’s Land Fund supported the purchase of 170+ organic farmland acres in Watsonville, CA, that will be transferred to five to seven Latino immigrant farmers. Those farmers will invest in soil health, biodiversity and climate resilience while earning a living. (Learn more about PLF’s projects here.)

In 2023, OGC gave PLF a Mission Fund Grant. That donation will go toward the programmatic work of land access and infrastructure for their BIPOC farmers.

“We appreciate partners like OGC who see the value of the work that we’re doing and support and trust us. A big part of getting money is trusting, and we don’t take that lightly. We are very grateful for the vote of confidence,” shared David Mancera, one of PLF’s leaders.

OGC’s Mission Fund Grant Program helps grow the organic agriculture movement by supporting hard working growers, nonprofits, customers and mission-aligned organizations working toward a healthier more sustainable food future. The People’s Land Fund is just one of the many organizations the Mission Fund supported in 2023. Find a list of all our recent grant recipients here.
