May Means California Stone Fruit!

The changing of the season is upon us with stone fruit right around the corner!

OGC’s stone fruit Buyer, Brian Keogh, shares that the season will officially kick off with the initial landing of apricots during the first week of May. Expect volume to start light, with plenty anticipated by mid-May, just after Mother’s Day. Next up will be red cherries! With an eta of early May those sweet treats will be here before you know it.  The first harvests of sun-kissed juicy peaches will start in the Coachella desert during the third week of May, and nectarines will arrive one week later. The first plum and pluot varieties are not expected to be available until early June, so if your eaters would like to try something new, Ume plum, the type used in umeboshi and other fermented applications, is available now and on request. Great for restaurants, makers or retailers with shoppers seeking specialty items.

Stay tuned for more information on these juicy gems as we move into May. It’s going to be a delicious stone fruit season!
