Peak NW Melon Season Is Here. Time to Go Big.

August is here, Northwest melon fields are in full production and OGC’s growers have the volume to keep your displays overflowing. From picnic staples like seedless watermelons to specialty showstoppers, now is the moment to bring them in, offer samples, inspire impulse purchases and celebrate one of the Pacific Northwest’s sweetest harvests.

Classic favorites like organic seeded striped watermelon and cantaloupe are joined by an exciting lineup of specialty varieties, including Tuscan, Canary, Hami, Snow Leopard and Black Seedless Watermelon (available in both regular and mini sizes). With so much variety, it's easy to create colorful displays that tempt shoppers to taste their way through the season.

"July was a warm-up. It gave us a nice start to Northwest melon season. This is the main event. We're in the heart of harvest. All melons are abundant, they’re eating beautifully and growers are ready to move volume. It's the perfect time to go big."
— Rachel Pienovi, OGC Purchasing Manager

Don’t Miss This Year’s Dry-Farmed Melons

Among the season's highlights is OGC's exclusive lineup of Ladybug Brand® Dry-Farmed Melons. Sugar Curb, Charentais and Piel de Sapo are available now, with Sharlyn arriving next week.

What makes them special? Instead of relying on irrigation throughout the summer, dry-farmed melons are grown by encouraging roots to reach deep into the soil for naturally available moisture. The result is a farming method that uses significantly less water while producing remarkably concentrated flavor. It's an age-old practice that's finding new relevance as growers adapt to a changing climate and increasing water challenges.

These aren't just melons with a sustainability story; they're melons shoppers remember.

  • Sugar Cube delivers intensely sweet, personal-sized fruit.

  • French heirloom Charentais is richly aromatic with silky orange flesh.

  • Piel de Sapo surprises with crisp green flesh and a flavor somewhere between honeydew and pear.

  • Sharlyn rounds out the lineup with fragrant, tropical notes.

Whether you're filling bins with watermelon, building a destination display of specialty varieties or introducing shoppers to dry-farmed melons for the first time, August is the month to lean in.

The fruit is here, the flavor is exceptional, and Northwest growers are counting on a strong finish to the season.
