Plan Ahead for St. Patrick’s Day!

Landing on Friday March 17th this year, St. Patrick’s Day will surely be extra festive. Here are a few tips to help plan for this food-focused holiday in the produce department!

Cabbage

Don’t run out of classic St. Paddy’s vegetable, organic cabbage! Options abound, starting with a plentiful supply of green cabbage out of California. Available in promotable volume and pricing, stock up confidently. Be sure to bring in extra red and Savoy. A variety of options create a dynamic display that is sure to entice and delight. Northwest-grown options are intermittently available on all three types as well, so go big on cabbage for this holiday!

Potatoes, Leeks & Onions

All three of these recipe staples will be popular during the holiday week as eaters prepare for their colcannon and other Irish dishes. Organic carton red, purple, yellow and Russet potatoes are in steady supply, with value options available in 3 lb. and 5 lb. bags. St. Patrick’s Day promotions are a perfect time to feature Ladybug Brand 3 lb. potatoes, packaged in a ‘greener’ kraft paper bag.

Northwest options abound for organic leeks and onions

Don’t get caught short on any of these essentials!

Carrots & Roots

Eaters are craving cozy stews and roasts during these final days of winter. Organic carrots, either in bulk or bunch, can be a colorful crop to feature in St. Patrick’s Day sets. Rainbow bunch carrots are particularly festive! The holiday is a fantastic opportunity to feature a root ad to support Northwest grower Montecucco Farms. They’re offering plenty of organic rutabaga, parsnips and turnips
