Nuevo Amanecer, Viejos Amigos

New Dawn, Old Friends

OGC is the ground on which organic has grown in our region. Partnerships with successive growers dot the land like the acreage farmed by Juan and Maria Aparicio. Previously One Step Forward Farm and leased by one of OGC’s original co-op members Dave DeCou, today, this pristine plot is well-known as Nuevo Amanecer (New Dawn).

Juan and Maria’s farming roots go back generations to their Oaxacan family. Juan arrived in the Willamette Valley from Oaxaca at 17. Soon after his journey, he met Maria.

Proud yet incredibly humble, Juan beams when explaining how they run Nuevo Amanecer. The farm produces 13-15 successive plantings, all starting from seed in their hoop house.

Juan’s hard work and precise planning achieve extraordinary results and explains how Nuevo Amanecer produces a concise list of specific crops and grows each so exceptionally well.

“Nuevo Amanecer sets a high standard for quality vegetables grown in the Willamette Valley, and we’re proud to be their exclusive wholesale distributor,” shared OGC Buyer Matt Visser. “Juan is an incredibly talented grower who consistently packs some of the most beautiful produce for our customers.”

Keeping rich, healthy soil in the hands of organic farmers and helping them succeed is part of our mission and reason for being.
