Cherries: Good News on This Favorite Juicy Gem

“Cherry trees in California are just about as happy as they can be right now,” reports OGC’s stone fruit Buyer Brian Keogh.

The cold nights and wet weather have allowed for vigorous growth and volume is looking great. California’s organic red cherry season is already a couple of weeks in, and the Rainier crop is expected to start next week. Look for color and flavor to keep getting deeper and richer, with good sizing and great sugars! Opportunities abound, including value-priced smaller fruit for price conscious eaters.

California cherry season is expected to last until the Northwest comes on in two weeks meaning a seamless transition into northern regions, even with growers in Washington starting harvest later than normal. The first Northwest red cherries are anticipated to land in about two weeks.

Be sure to bring in plenty of deliriously delicious red and Rainier cherries while the California crop is in full swing! Take advantage of peak volume and flavor on this fan-favorite with strong merchandising and promotional pricing.
